Many of you know that I have an obsession with Terrain. And if you talk to almost any outdoor home designer or gardener on the East Coast, I think we all have a bit of an obsession.
What most people don’t know is that mine goes all the way back to 2010.
At the time, I was on a steady hunt for a new position, and an old boss made a connection for me at Terrain. I interviewed for a buying position and thought it was the perfect job. Years earlier, I had passed up an opportunity for a holiday décor buying position and stayed in product development instead, so this felt like another chance to move in that direction.
Sadly, I didn’t make it past the first round of interviews. I still don’t know if the conversation about me moving to Philadelphia got in the way—or maybe it was my giant belly. I was nine months pregnant at the time, somehow thinking they wouldn’t notice.
Going through my computer recently, I found the deck I created for that interview. And you know what? I still think it’s pretty relevant and on point all these years later.
I guess it was meant to be that they didn’t hire me. Four years later, Wubby Designs was full-time.
Funny how things work out.
